PROGRAM NOTES

“The Sound of the Land" is a song dedicated to our nature. Based on articles and research, so many creatures are decreasing in a great degree or facing extinction from cruel hunting and extreme environments. Human activities have also significantly impacted the survival of whales and dolphins, which further contributed to ecological imbalance. I’ve lived in a mountain in Taiwan for 27 years and I know that there is a strong connection between me and nature. Words can hardly express how beautiful and important nature is, but I am saddened to see the environmental destruction humans inflict on the earth every day. I always remember the lyrics in Pocahontas, “And we are all connected to each other, in a circle, in a hoop that never ends.” Nature is the main inspiration for my compositions and I know it is my mission to do something for her through music. Like what Dr. Jane Goodall said, “there is still a window of time. Nature can win If we give her a chance,” there's still time to save nature.

In the modern days, how long have humans turned away from these sounds of the land, the voices of the souls? I believe that my blood flows with the impact and the awareness of beauty the grand land brought me. With the power of music, I hope to increase the awareness of environmental issues in the modern world and encourage everyone to help save the environment. Accumulating the inspirations and baptism nature has given to me, through the notes and lyrics, with this song, I celebrate the sound of the land!

THE SOUND OF THE LAND

Lyrics by Hung-Ping Chang

Darkness,
hear the song of night,
calling, from the heaven sky.

The mountain is dancing,
in the moonlights' smile,
flying and falling,
is the blossoms' tale.

Shadows of leafy trees,
Orangutan plays with her child;
Sapphire ocean,
Humpback whales' bouncing.

In sunrise,
hope of life,
high inside,
flapping wings in sky.
In your eyes,
in your heart,
do you hear the sound of the land!

A hundred six thousand years ago,
came the spoor of man,
the gift from the nature,
on the fresco,
and in the life beside the water.

On bright green grasses,
are Dama Gazelles' leaps;
Shimmer of the silver reed,
Bengal Tiger is lapping her dearest!

In sunrise,
hope of life,
high inside,
flapping wings in sky.
In your eyes,
in your heart,
do you hear the sound of the land!

In the rainfall,
in the deep ocean,
in the arm of the mountain call!
In the cloud dance,
in the heartbeat of the wind,
Listen!
the sound of the land!
